Fazit
Die CLD-28S ist für den fortgeschrittenen Anfänger eine echte Option. Sie kommt ihrem Vorbild, der Martin D-28, rein äußerlich sehr nahe, die Verarbeitung stimmt, und mit einem ausgewogenen Soundbild ist sie akustisch ebenfalls gut aufgestellt, denn auch ohne Pickup/Preamp ist sie gewiss kein Leisetreter. Für die Akustikgitarren-Champions-League reicht es zwar nicht, aber das erwartet wohl auch niemand. Die CLD-28S wird mit einer Ersatz-Stegeinlage, einem Ersatz-Pin (für den Saitenhalter) und einem Schlüssel für den Hals ausgeliefert. Der aufgerufene Preis ist mehr als fair, allerdings bringt die Schwester aus der Custom Line Serie, die Harley Benton CLD-41S, noch mehr Optik und Sound (gegen Aufpreis) mit.

Hi, thanks for this exhaustive and very useful review. Just one question: at the end, in the Facts, you say that the bracing is "Standard „X“ (non scalloped)". However, in the Thomann web says it has "Scalloped X-Bracing". Could you clarify if the bracing in the Harley Benton CLD-28S is scalloped or not?

thanks for your comment. I can´t check it out a second time, because I sent the guitar back. So far as I recall, the upper braces, from the intersection of the "X" to the neck are non scalloped but the straight braces are definitely tapered at the ends. So, we are talking about the invisible part from the intersection up to the bridge. You can check it out by loosen the strings a bit.
So far as I could fumble the braces were also non scalloped or may be slightly scalloped. At least the guitar shouldn´t have any scalloped bracing. Because the Harley Benton D-28 was a facsimile of the original made by Martin & Co I may also refer to the guide „A technical reference“ (by the authors Johnston & Boak) to find some information about the original: The last Martin D-28 with a scalloped top bracing was released in 1944. The HD-28 ist he first reissue of herringbone D-28 with scalloped bracing to release in 1976.

Thanks for your answer, as exhautive as your reviews! Certainly, being a "facsimile" of the D-28 it shouldn't have scalloped bracing. However, I contacted Thomann and they told me that this model is scalloped. Anyway, it seems a very good instrument for a beginner, worth trying it.
